Catching up

SITE NEWS:

It’s been a while since I updated the site, due to being very busy, as well as social media having taken over from personal websites/blogs. I post in my Twitter and Facebook far more these days. Some of you have emailed me, asking when I was going to post more Kitty Cat Diary entries. Well, here it is finally:

I’ve also added some examples of my real estate photography.

WEBLOG:

Every year when NaNoWriMo comes around, I give it about ten seconds of contemplation, then decide not to do it. It’s mainly because I don’t like rushing when I write, as it just results in a first draft so bad that I could barely read it back to myself without wanting to set it on fire.

This year, my writing group (put together by Hugo and Nebula nominated author, Yoon Ha Lee, who was one of my art students) talked me to into joining them in doing it. Needless to say, I’ve fallen far behind already in terms of word-count, but I’m glad they talked me into it, because it forced me to brainstorm hard and finalize the outline for an idea I’ve been working on for a while and couldn’t quite nail down. Even if I never make it close to the 50K words goal, I’ll at least have some chapters that lay down a solid foundation for the rest of the book. I’m excited by the idea and I hope the finished book will fulfill the aspirations I have for it.

As for what the book is about, all I can tell you right now is that it’s a modern day fantasy involving the dream realm, extra-dimensional creatures, and government conspiracies.

My life is very hectic these days. I do a lot of teaching (art, photography, game development, creative writing/storytelling, music composition/arrangement/ production) and professional photography (portraits, real estate, products, food), then in my free-time I write my novels and hang out in K-Pop-related Discord servers with fellow K-Pop trash. Elena’s been extremely busy too, since she’s pretty much my agent/manager for my teaching gigs and professional photography, and she’s also recently started to sell her baked goods, which have been very popular in her social circle. This in turns makes me even more busy because I’m the one who has to do all the driving (she doesn’t drive) when it comes to shopping for ingredients/equipment and delivering to customers.

It’s likely my updates to the site will remain as infrequent as in the last year or two, but I’ll try not to just completely abandon it. I have been wanting to completely revamp it, since it’s quite outdated in terms of design and structure, but when I looked into possible options, the simple ones are not very customizable (they don’t even allow arbitrary arrangement of thumbnail layout, nor do they allow the kind of frame structure I want), so I either have to spend an ungodly amount of time redoing the site myself, or spend money and hire someone else to do it. Right now my site at least still runs (though it doesn’t display ideally on mobile devices), so until I figure out what to do, I’m just going to leave it as is for now.
