This is the photo tour of our new home that we fnished constructing in January, 2009. It took us about six months of design, material shopping, construction, moving, and settling in. The studio took another additional six months of research, planning, and design. The entire experience was one of extreme frustration because constractors in China are very unprofessional and the standard of quality can only be described as abysmal. We never backed down and demanded that we get what we wanted and paid for, and we supervised all the additional changes and fixes until we were satisfied with the results. Our budget was actually very modest, and we tried to do the best we can within that budget. Our ultimate goal was simply a cozy home that is visually pleasing, without unnecessary extravagance, and I think we achieved that goal in the end. Now's let's get to the photos!

This is the Century Gate, and it's the first thing you see when you turn onto the street that leads to our residential complex. It is technically the entrance for the big mansions nearby beyond the gate, and the real estate company built it to attract the upper echelon of society, which also benefited surrounding complexes like ours. I think it's ridiculously epic in size and a total waste of money (it cost billions of RMB to build), but it's easy to find for taxi drivers. . ..

We can see the gate from our balcony, especially that it's lit up at night.

Here are our neighboring residential complexes.

This is our residential complex.

Our complex consists of townhouses (in China they call them mansions) and high-rises, and our home is in one of the highrises.
