After leaving the kitchen area, you'll see the 1st floor bathroom on the right, the stairs on the left, and the living room/study ahead.
Originally, this was a loft, and I wasn't satisfied with the layout of the loft (it wasn't open enough and felt like looking up a well). Eventually I decided that even if we pulled over the ceiling and got rid of the loft, the ceiling would still be quite high, and we'd gain a lot of additional space on the second floor (which became our bedroom).
We love our coffee table and sofa--they both fold out so we can eat in front of the TV comfortably. One of our favorite things to do is to cover the table with food and then turn off the lights and watch a DVD.

The study. We decided to leave it open because we like open spaces, and in general I'm almost always in my studio, so Elena would never have to fight to keep the study peaceful and quiet.
Those books are roughly 2/3 of all our books (the rest are upstairs in the studio). My books make up about 5/6 of the whole, and they span classic literature, fiction, non-fiction, art, music, photography, animation, comic books, sculpture, architecture, interior design, fashion...etc.
