Kitty Cat Diary | ¿ß«}¤é°O
The Kitty Cat Diary is a photo diary of my adorkable wife, and it's what happens when a photographer marries a woman who doesn't mind having a camera pointed at her during everyday life. Elena (A.K.A. Kitty Cat, because my nicknames for her all revolve around the theme of a cat.) is my favorite subject to photograph--there's just something very theraputic about grabbing a camera and capturing the person you love the most in the world, while combining that with creativity and aesthetic sensibility. This interaction has brought us a lot of joy over the years and captured a lot of precious memories. If you want to get to know Elena better, her bio is the best place to start.
Since these are spur-of-the-moment snapshots, it's best to enjoy them simply as casual fun instead of serious photography (you can find more serious photography in other areas of my site). A wide range of camera were used to shoot these photos--from professional cameras to casual compacts and smartphones. You can find out what photography gear I shoot with in the FAQ section.

Kitty Cat in a trendy Chinese-style outfit
The next 6 photos were taken with the Fuji F10, hence the difference in image quality.
Kitty Cat looking very blurry at dinner. Every once a while a good shot is ruined by camera shake or missed focus, such as the second shot.
Kitty Cat out to dinner at Strait's Cafe in Palo Alto.
Kitty Cat at a Thai restaurant in Belmont, CA. We searched high and low for good Thai restaurants in the Bay Area, and so far Thai Pepper in Sunnyvale and Marnee Thai in San Francisco have remained our favorites.

Sometimes the Kitty Cat Diary entries are a bit...exposed, shall we say, during the summer seasons, and when there are entries like that I always make sure Kitty Cat sees the selections before adding them to the site. She's a pretty interesting mixture of being confident yet a bit conservative at the same time, so I'm not always sure which shots she wouldn't want me to include in an entry. According to her, sexy is okay, as long as it's classy and natural instead of crass and blatantly contrived. Showing a little skin is also fine, as long as she's not down to just her bra and panty (but if the bra has a design that doesn't look too much like undergarment, then maybe it's okay).
The next 3 photos were taken with the Fuji F10, hence the difference in image quality.
One of Kitty Cat's favorite lounging spots (she constructed that area with my synthsizer flight case, my unused oil painting drying racks, and old bookcase shelf panels I built many years ago).
kitty Cat sporting the "alluring secretary" look. Too bad I don't have an office.
You can always tell which Kity Cat Diary entries are during the summer. As much as I hate the heat during summer, I do like the fact she's always in these little silky chemises at home.
Putting our balcony glass door to good use (the best free softbox in the world).
July
This set was shot by the swimming pool of the apartment complex we lived in at the time in San Mateo, CA. Although I used a reflector, I wasn't too happy with how the photos turned out, since it was very hard to handle a reflector with the wind AND shoot a heavy DSLR like the 1D Mark II at the same time.
This dress was pretty expensive, so Kitty Cat vowed to wear it at least a few times this summer.
May
Kitty Cat posing on the balcony makeshift funiture she made (she's quite the handywoman--as her blog will attest to).
April
Kitty Cat attending a lunch get-together for an online forum she participates in (for Chinese immigrants in the States, Canada...etc).
March
We found this great sofa on clearance sale at Levitz. We almost went with a different one because it was more elegant, but in the end, we decided it only mattered if it was very comfortable. As you can see, this thing has a pull out for the legs, and also reclines into something that could be mistaken for a bed. Kitty Cat loves that sofa because she gets to be a couch potato at home while I'm busy at the office.
This coffee table is one of Kitty Cat's favorite spots in the apartment.
Our new place has floor-to-ceiling doors/windows along the entire length of the apartment, so it's always nice and bright.
Februrary
Kitty Cat turned thirty-six. No, not all Asians age this well--she's aging well even for an Asian woman.
Kitty Cat at the new apartment in San Mateo, CA.
Last photos I took of Kitty Cat before we moved out of Sunnyvale, CA.
