Kitty Cat Diary | ¿ß«}¤é°O

The Kitty Cat Diary is a photo diary of my adorkable wife, and it's what happens when a photographer marries a woman who doesn't mind having a camera pointed at her during everyday life. Elena (A.K.A. Kitty Cat, because my nicknames for her all revolve around the theme of a cat.) is my favorite subject to photograph--there's just something very theraputic about grabbing a camera and capturing the person you love the most in the world, while combining that with creativity and aesthetic sensibility. This interaction has brought us a lot of joy over the years and captured a lot of precious memories. If you want to get to know Elena better, her bio is the best place to start.

Since these are spur-of-the-moment snapshots, it's best to enjoy them simply as casual fun instead of serious photography (you can find more serious photography in other areas of my site). A wide range of camera were used to shoot these photos--from professional cameras to casual compacts and smartphones. You can find out what photography gear I shoot with in the FAQ section.

Kitty Cat at the immigration lawyer's office. We hired one to make sure we didn't make any mistakes in the entire process of getting her American citizenship.

October

Kitty Cat about to go out into the muggy Fuzhou summer heat.

August

Kitty Cat in my temporary studio space. The acoustics were horrible--really severe bass buildup and with a main street just outside the balcony door, and without any proper sound isolation treatment. I spent most of time in that temporary studio designing my new studio in the new home and thinking to myself "Once we finish our new home I'll never have to deal with crappy workspaces like this ever again."

June

Kitty Cat at our temporary apartment in Fuzhou, China. We moved back to China to keep an eye on our investments there, and while we were doing construction on our new home, we rented this expensive apartment that had really cheap construction but great location. The whole time we were there we just wished our new home would get finished so we could move in.

April

Life's been very hectic for the past several months, so there were no Kitty Cat Diary entries. Then Kitty Cat went back to China for a couple of months and made the stretch between entries even longer. When spring came around the corner, we realized that she had so many clothes she's never actually worn since they were purchased, so we decided to at least take some photos of them instead of having them go to waste. We also joked that she's going to reach the age where it would no longer be appropriate for us to continue the Kitty Cat Diary, so we better post more before we run out of time. (She's currently 37. Just three more years until the big 40!)

What's with the current baby doll trend? The entire fashion industry has been taken over by baby doll designs and you are left with no other choices (believe me, we searched everywhere). I really hate it when a trend takes over the entire fashion industry, because if you are not a fan of the trend, you'd have to wait a couple of years before you can find clothes you liked again. The problem with the baby doll design is that it has no waist at all, and majority of them look more like maternity dresses--not exactly flattering. We managed to find a few that weren't so bad, but in general I think the baby doll design should be used in moderation.

Kitty Cat was in the mood to acquire some sensual attire, so it was my job to pick out some outfits for her. I'm not a fan of blatant trashiness, so I went for outfits that were more on the sensual and cute side, as opposed to "street corner style."

The next 5 photos were taken with the Fuji F10, hence the difference in image quality.

I've mentioned before about how Kitty Cat doesn't take "selfie/selca" photos of herself like some attractive females do, unless she's making goofy faces like I showed last time (at the bottom of this page). This is another one of those exceptions, since she was back in China taking care of business and it's the longest we're ever been apart, so I asked her to take some photos and email them (don't like webcams--low resolution and connection problems). I half expected her to send me photos of her making dorky faces but thankfully she kept it pretty normal. I think she looks different in the photos she takes of herself compared to the ones I take of her--perhaps it's because her expression and body languge responds to who's behind the lens?
